About LBSA
Lions Befrienders Service Association (Singapore) [LBSA] is a Voluntary Welfare Organisation which was founded in 1995 by the Lions Clubs of Singapore and a Lions District Project. We are also a registered member with the National Council of Social Service, the local social services sector’s umbrella body. Our core mission is to aid in the social, psycho-emotional and physical well-being of lonely seniors through community participation whilst upholding our belief that every older person is a valued member of society and deserves to age with grace and dignity.

Our Core Programmes
To achieve our mission, we run two core programmes i.e. Befriending and Outreach, to benefit lonely seniors in our society. Our island-wide Befriending Programme reaches out to about 1,700 lonely seniors, aged 65 years and above and who have limited or no family support, through weekly visitation by 890 trained volunteers and social/recreational activities. We are also committed to enhance their quality of life by facilitating better co-ordination in the provision of community-based care and support services.

To complement our Befriending programme, we run an Outreach programme conducted through three Neighbourhood Links (NLs) located in mature housing estates, i.e. in Ang Mo Kio, Bendemeer and Mei Ling. At these NLs, we promote active ageing and continuous learning by engaging about 1,800 seniors in a wide array of meaningful activities and courses. We believe in facilitating the integration of lonely seniors to age in place actively within their local neighbourhoods. Our NLs also help to promote volunteerism amongst seniors and provide us with a channel to outreach to more lonely seniors living within our community.

Funding
Whilst the Befriending Programme is fully funded by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the National Council of Social Service, the Outreach Programme only receives partial funding from the former. As such, we conduct fundraising activities to sustain the running of our three NLs. Examples of fundraising events held include the Befriending Walk, Charity Golf Tournament and Flag Day.
